Thurston were presented with a different type of challenge with Wythenshawe Hospital. This was a staged project, providing three specialist ward facilities including, Diabetes, Gastro and Maternity. The key client brief was to deliver a series of wards that ultimately formed a two storey 4000m² facility within short programmes and with minimum disruption to the running of the hospital.
The use of a partnering approach to this project it helped develop the detailed specification within strict budgets for each phase of this development.
In total, Thurston’s have installed 74 bays for Wythenshawe Hospital, providing 105 bed spaces, various consultancy rooms and relevant auxiliary and support facilities.
In addition a future proof design minimised disruption to the running of the main site even though it was adjacent to a main entrance for Wythenshawe Hospital.
All of this was done with minimal disruption to the running of the main site, even though it was adjacent to the main entrance for Wythenshawe hospital. In additional all the relevant Health Technical Bulletins and Notices had to be met demonstrating our commitment to meeting high standards
UHSM Estates Manager John Berry said ‘The 4 wards that Thurston have constructed, containing 105 beds and a women’s health treatment unit, provide excellent accommodation for the Trust.’ Joanne Robson, who manages the women and children’s service, said: “The unit will continue to provide extremely important services to our female patients and is evidence of the progress we are making in our drive to expand services for women and children. I’d like to thank all the fantastic staff involved in making this happen.’
Value was added by the Thurston project and design team who work closely with all our clients to ensure that their deadlines are met (even in staged projects) and that the building delivered meets their exact specifications. This is true of all our projects.
